He was born to Marion and Tranquil deGuzman on April 1, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York where he lived until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with the 43rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Group which landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on “D plus 11.” The group fought across Europe into Germany and was awarded 4 Battle Stars.
