John McCarthy

John McCarthy, 81, son of Mary and Joseph McCarthy passed away this last Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. John was born in the Bronx, New York and raised and educated in Huntington, Long Island, NY. After marrying Lois, the girl next door, he was hired by Grumman Aircraft Corp. as a draftsman and through a series of promotions advanced to Program Management on the Apollo space program. After the successful moon landing, he transferred to Savannah, GA operations where he continued to succeed and eventually became part of the senior executive management team at Gulfstream Aerospace before retiring after 35 years.

While in Savannah, John served on the Boards of the Savannah Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Economic Development Authority, Goodwill Industries and March of Dimes as well as the Board of Stewards of the Savannah Yacht Club. He also served for three years as President of the Wilmington Park Homes Association, and for several years coached the Wilmington Park swim team and the Islands YMCA football team.

An avid and accomplished sailor, he and his family enjoyed many years of local and off-shore sailboat racing. As such, he was honored to help Savannah prepare for and host the 1996 Olympic sailing events – both administratively and on the water.

He is survived by his partner of 64 years, Lois, his two sons, John and his wife Lori, and Steve and his wife Beth, and two grandchildren, Shane and Jessica, as well as his sister, Pat, and her family.

My sincere condolences to the McCarthy family, losing a loved one in death is never easy. As we look at the account of Jesus friend Lazarus we learn alot about the position Jesus has an the power that has been giving to him to resurrect all of our loved ones. Please read John 11:25 to see what Jesus said to Martha an how it benefits us all.
