He was the son of the late Thomas Edmond Flaherty and Catherine McKenna Flaherty and was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hodge Flaherty. Bernie was born in Savannah and raised in the Old Fort area. He later moved to Thunderbolt where he lived for 60 years. He was a past member of the old Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church.
