She was born February 22, 1926 to Maureen Sullivan Jones and Edward Pacetti Jones in Savannah, Georgia where she attended Catholic schools and graduated from Savannah High School. Lanier lived in numerous cities around the United States with her husband Alfred Lanier who wrote for the Associated Press.
