Growing up near Troup Square, she attended St. Vincent’s Grammar School and was a 1941 graduate of Commercial High School, where she excelled on the girls' basketball team. In 1949, Rose married Clarke Carter, and they enjoyed a beautiful life together until his death in 2001.
