Celebrating the life of

Maxine Liles

April 30, 1930 - September 16, 2017

Maxine Liles

Our sweet mom, Shirley Maxine Liles left this world September 16, 2017 to join her Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven after a long stay at Riverview Health and Rehab and John Wesley Villas.  Mom was born in Augusta, Georgia to Sheron and Jewel Gary on April 30, 1930.   She moved with her parents to Savannah as a young child.

While attending Savannah High School she met the love of her life, James Kenneth Liles.  They were married a few weeks before her graduation and remained happily married until his death in December 24, 1990.  Although Mom was content being a stay-at-home Mom she and a friend successfully catered Events and Weddings for a while.   Mom was kept busy raising three daughters and helping raise five granddaughters by keeping them after school.  Her home church was Thunderbolt Baptist where Mom taught Sunday School, was Bible School Director, sang in the Choir and later directed the choir.  Later she joined Immanuel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a woman of many talents and took great delight in working with the flowers in her yard and decorating her home.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Byron) McKinney, Savannah; Sue (Jim) Mease, Iowa; Pam (Ronald) Alford, Guyton; five granddaughters, Robyn (Johnny) Wood, Savannah, Sheri (Chris) Payne, Iowa; Jennifer (Dan) Beagle, Kentucky; Brandy Alford, Guyton and Kaitlyn Alford, Guyton.  She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Maggie, Aaron and Avery Wood, Carrie, Carli and Candace Payne, 2 great great grandchildren, Carter and Chloe Wells and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors,

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

GUEST BOOK

Friends since before I was even born, Maxine and the entire Liles family have always been very special to our family.

- Rhonda Coley, Garner, NC

I am sorry for your loss. Death is painful to all of us. However God's word the Bible always offers encouragement. A scripture I find comforting is Isaiah 25:8. There Jehovah promises to do away with death and all things that bring us pain. That will be very satisfying! I hope this thought has been comforting to you. May positive thoughts fill you hearts and minds as you endure this difficult time.

- R.G., Savannah, Ga

My condolences to the family. May you find comfort in the scripture at Revelation 21:4 and the website jw. org.

My sincerest condolences. May you be comforted by the words found at Psalms 34:18;Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those wo are crushed in spirit. It is my hope that this scripture helps you and your dear loved ones cope with grief and sadness now and in the days to come.

- Givens, Pooler, Ga

Pam, Ronald, Brandy & Kaitlyn: Gary and I are not going to make it to Maxine's funeral. Just know you're all on our minds and hearts. I will always remember Maxine as the most sweetest and funny woman. She was always such a pleasant person to be around. Praying for you all

Sorry to hear about Maxine, she will be missed

- Bill Parker (John Wesley Villas), Savannah, GA

My sincerest condolences go out to your family, it's never easy losing someone in death. May you take comfort in God's promise found at Revelation 21:4, which says "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This verse brought me peace when I experienced loss, I hope it can do the same for you. May the memories you have give you strength during this difficult time.
