Born in Pittsburgh on April 16, 1942, she was the daughter of the late William LaGrange Wolfe and the late Jeanette Bartels Wolfe. She lived in Pittsburgh for her first 13 years, moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she graduated from Holland Hall School, and then to Houston, Texas.
