Savannah- Lee Augustus Petersen was born on November 12, 1931 in St. Croix, US, Virgin Islands to the late Peter and Anita Petersen. Lee was the eldest of four siblings and left home in 1948 at the age of 17 to claim his manhood by enlisting in the United States Armed Services using a fictitious age 18. He served a 3 year term in the Korean War and ranked Sergeant. After completing his duties in the infantry, he was transferred to the Reserves for 5 years until his release in 1957.
