A native of Raleigh, NC, he graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh. He served in the United States Navy from 1940 until his retirement in 1960. He was a member of the Navy League of the United States and the Fleet Reserve Association. Mr. Comer later retired from a career in banking with Savannah Bank & Trust Co.
