She passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, on August 18, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia. Olive, the daughter of Rev. R. C. and Maxie Kale, was born in Highlands, NC, raised in Daisy, GA and graduated from Claxton high school in Claxton, GA. One of eight children of Tillman and Imogene Powell, he was born on January 18, 1924 in Augusta, GA. His youth was spent between school and working in the family grocery but in 1940 he joined the Marine Corps as an original member of Augusta’s 19th BN Marine Corps Reserve Unit, he loyally served for 26 years.
