Helen Caroline Orzechowski Blum

Helen Caroline Orzechowski Blum, 97, passed away July 19, 2022.

She was born one of ten children of Joseph and Catherine (Nicpan) Orzechowski in Bridgeport, CT. She was educated there and in New York as part of the war effort.

Helen’s career was as an administrative assistant at Georgia Tech Research Institute.

In 1946 she married Frederick Henry Blum, Jr. They had one daughter, Katherine Lilla Blum Russell.

One of Helen’s greatest pleasures was accompanying her husband and daughter to their karate lessons and karate competitions.

A life-long Catholic, Helen was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church until it merged and became Resurrection Catholic Church.

Helen is survived by siblings Ferdinand Orrell (CT), Mary Cortese (PA), Josephine Brigantic (CT) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends  9:30-10:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 28, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Island Chapel, 4605 US 80, Savannah 31410.

Fr. Dawid of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Richmond Hill, will conduct the cryptside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery Mausoleum, 1600 Wheaton St., Savannah, where she will be entombed near her husband of 64 years and their daughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation in Helen’s memory to Pruitt Health Hospice, 9100 White Bluff Rd. STE 305, Savannah, GA 31406 or St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 10550 Ford Avenue, Richmond Hill, GA  31324.
