Celebrating the life of
CAPT Curtis Durwood Knight, Sr. (USN, Ret.)
November 03, 1935 - September 15, 2021
Curtis Knight was born on November 3, 1935 in Tarboro, North Carolina and moved with his family to Annapolis, Maryland during WWII. Upon graduation from the University Maryland, he was commissioned into the US Navy an achieved the rank of Captain before retiring in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Kathy Powell (Herbert); son, Curtis D. Knight, Jr. (Reba). Four grandchildren, Summer Ford, Megan Murray (Benjamin), Robert Knight, and Michael Powell (Stephanie). Great grandchildren, Abbigale, Victoria, Olivia Ford and Reese Powell. Also, a sister Cynthia Dray of Hagerstown, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Estelle Overton Knight.
CAPT Knight was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Savannah and served as an Elder and member of different church committees. He enjoyed helping communities in Virginia and Savannah as a member of Kiwanis (former President of Chesapeake, Virginia) and the Lions Club of Savannah.
His naval career of 28 years included service on the USS Orion and USS Montrail and duty stations overseas as well as duty at the Pentagon. He received numerous honors including the Presidential Meritorious Service Medal.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Avenue. A private graveside service is planned at a later date in Annapolis, Maryland.

I am so sorry to hear of Curt’s passing. He was a very wonderful man and friend. He was a wonderful neighbor. He was always helping and looking out for everyone in the neighborhood. He will be greatly missed.
