I only knew Mr.Wheeler for a year, my freshman year, but that man made a huge impact on my life. He would always play a heart touching story in the beginning of every class. He would share his stories with us, make us laugh and smile. He was a great teacher, a great man. I will miss him dearly. And I thank him for everything he taught me. <3

- Viviana, Richmondhill , Georgia

This is incredibly saddening for not only me but everyone in the SECHS family. I hope you knew what a great teacher and overall person you were. You made class more personal as you told us about yourself as your stories are ones that stick with me. With your jokes down to your diet coke obsession, class was always interesting with you. Your passing will be felt by all as you were one teacher everyone enjoyed. My prayers go out to your family as they have lost a kind spirit and God has gained one. You will be remembered!

- Lillian, Savannah, Georgia

My deepest condolences to the Wheeler family. He made my high school years so enjoyable and always had a smile on his face! As long as he ran his marathons and had his coke products he was good to go. Praying for his family and friends.

- Dipiksha Patel, Savananh , GA

I’m so sorry for your loss, I know he was held in your hearts throughout the years. He was one of the most memorable teachers I’ve had. I dont think I’ve fully processed this. My heart goes out to his son, his daughter and his wife. He would tell us so many funny stories about himself , But I knew he was ready to let go. I just never thought it would actually happen. He was basically the only reason school was enjoyable. Having his class the first of the day, being able to laugh and joke and talk with him and my classmates, It was always a beautiful to start off my day. If his death is hitting this hard for me I can’t imagine how it would hit for his loved ones. I really just can’t believe this. I hope you all are okay as you can be with what’s occurring and I want you to know, He is in a happier place. A place with no stress and no worrying about the troubles in the world. He’s free.

- Ma’Kayylah Dennis, Port Wentworth, GA

This came as a shock to me. Mr. Wheeler had the heart, soul & energy that made you feel like he was invincible. Even a class clown as I was, he never made you feel like you weren’t made for greatness. I will never forget 10/ 10/ 2010 as that was a running joke between him & all his students. Rest easy, Mr. Wheeler.

A small group of dedicated educators signed on to a very big, very new, and very out of the box idea years ago with the Gates Foundation - Ken was one of that small group, and out of that commitment grew Savannah Early College. Ken was a key part of those early years, and every year since, leaving a legacy of students. They remember him as a great teacher, most importantly because he sincerely cared about them. I am grateful to have worked with Ken as a part of those early years, and send my deepest condolences to his family and the SECHS community in this time of loss.

- Anne Weisel, SAVANNAH, GA

I offer my deepest condolences to the family during this time of bereavement. Mr. Wheeler definitely was a light to the SECHS family. His sense of humor and charisma definitely made it hard to not deem him among the most favorable teachers for most. Having his class during certain semesters served as a “break” from the stresses of normal day to day “high school.” Hearing the infamous “Meet me out Front!” definitely will forever ring through the walls of SECHS and in our hearts. May you rest in eternal peace Mr. Wheeler, job well done sir.

- H. Taylor, Jr., Savannah , GA

- Sue & Mike Svoboda, Savannah, GA

We have lost a Bus Ramp Buddy - Mr. Wheeler was part of our crew that monitored the Bus Ramp during morning duty at school. He along with Sgt. Tisdale, SRO Muhammad and I were the core of our crew. We could talk about anything from school, politics, sports and yes, even religion. We all had great respect for each other's opinions and often shared the same views. Unfortunately for us, God needed Mr. Wheeler to handle one last duty. Little did we know that leaving for Spring Break would be our last conversation. He has received more than a spring break. He has received his final call. We salute you sir and pray God's blessing upon your family. We shall never forget the laughter, the fun, and even the gnats as we weathered the daily elements. As you look down upon us, just know that we enjoyed your company, but God's company is so much better. Rest in Eternal Peace my Brother from another Mother. Tim Sheppard on behalf of the Bus Ramp Buddies!

- Timothy Sheppard, Savannah, GA

He’s impacted my life in more ways than he’ll ever know. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Wheeler’s family. I truly feel blessed and honored that Mr. Wheeler was a part of my life.

- Aaliyah Scott , Savannah , GA

Mr. Wheeler was a man of many talents. But to me, he changed my outlook on the school. He showed me the world of cross country and enjoyed every moment of it. One thing he will be remembered is his happy go lucky outlook on his teaching skills and his love of Diet Cokes. I will miss him for the training sessions in the heat and humidity. I will keep him in my heart. May thoughts and prayers reach his family and friends.

- Rameses Bucay, Savannah, GA

I knew Ken through the marriage of our children, Kelsey and Kenny. Sadly, I have to admit we didn't know each other that well. He was always nice and generous, and entertained us in his home a few times. He and Kelsey were very close, and I know she is hurting terribly, as is Tammy. He will be missed for sure. You are in my prayers and intentions. I just wanted to stop and comment on all the testimonies here by his students. One of the greatest deeds we can do while on Earth, is to make a difference in the life of a child. It seems Ken did that every day, with teenagers no less. Job well done sir. Rest easy Ken. (cant believe Im gonna say this) - GO VOLS!!

- steve stettler, savannah, GA

We are so sorry for your heartbreaking loss. Prayers for comfort and peace.

This has truly been a shock to me as I am lost for words of the passing of one my favorite high school teachers Mr. Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler carried his own easy going charisma and it stuck out to everyone. There was nobody like Wheeler. As being in his home room for 3 years I can always count on him for advice, a stress free atmosphere, a laugh, and plenty of coke cans Lol! You will truly be missed Mr. Wheeler fly high!❤️
