Robert H. Brown

Robert "Bob" Brown, age 81, died Sunday, March 18 at Candler Hospital.

Born in Commer, GA, he served as a member of the 86th Black Hawk Division in the U. S. Army and participated in the Ryan, Rural Pocket, and Bavarian Campaigns. He also served in the Philippians and Okinawa. After completing his tour of duty, he married at the age of 22.

He attended night school at Georgia Tech and worked for Special-T Electronics / Dow Electronics for over 41 years where he received awards including: Outstanding Sales, Outstanding Distributor, and the Presidential Award. He was a Territory Salesman in Atlanta, a Store Manager in Valdosta, and a Store Manager in Savannah, retiring as Area Sales Manager.

At the Baptist Tabernacle in Atlanta, the Lee Street Baptist Church in Valdosta, and the Wilmington Island Baptist Church in Savannah, he served on the deacon board, as choir member, and a training union teacher. In July of 1980, he and his wife moved their memberships to Bible Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school director, substitute teacher, and a deacon.

He was an active member of the Lion's Club for 34 years, during which time he was awarded many yearly appreciation awards and honors including the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and two Lion of the Year awards.
Predeceased by Virginia Williams Brown, wife for over 56 years; and parents, Ford McRae Brown and Vera Roberts Brown.

Surviving: daughters, Vicki Brown East of Savannah and Cindy Brown Ely of Cary, NC; sister, Rebecca Brown Withers of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Thomas W. East III, Robert Warren East, Wryan Thorpe East, Joseph Robert Ely and Austin Dean Ely; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks. Officiating the service will be his son-in-law, Reverend Thomas W. East, Jr., Dr. Herbert Hubbard, and Dr. John Rainwater all from Bible Baptist Church.

Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
