SAVANNAH- Donald C. Smith, 76, died Saturday, January 05, 2008, at his home. The Columbus, GA native had lived in Savannah since 1979.
He attended the University of Georgia and remained an avid Bulldogs fan. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, serving first as a medic and then as an artillery gunner.
Donald retired from Eastern Air Lines after thirty-three years of service. After retirement he worked in the Garden Department of Home Depot, became a Master Gardener, and volunteered at the Bamboo Farm. He was a longtime member of Savannah Christian Chruch.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Smith of Savannah; a daughter, Sheila Vittitow of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Pam Smith of Savannah; five grandchildren, Cpl. Daniel Vittitow, USMC, Cpl. Erick Vittitow, USMC, Alex Vittitow, Brian Smith, and Regan Smith
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to The Imagine Campaign, Savannah Christian Church, 55 Al Henderson Blvd., Savannah, GA 31419.
