Jack G. Knauz

TYBEE ISLAND-Jack G. Knauz, 84, passed away on the 9th day of August at his home on South Campbell Avenue, Tybee Island, GA.
Jack was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 25, 1924. He attended Sewickley High School and graduated in 1942. Jack joined the Navy during World War II, serving in the Navy Air Transport and received his Navy wings in August of 1943 as Aviation Radioman and Aerial Gunner and was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Iowa duty as airman on the OS221 Reconnaissance plane and later in Alaska in Navy Transport. Jack moved to Tybee Island in August 1953 with is wife Shirley and their two children Russell, five years and Jackie at two and a half years. Jack was a contractor and had his own business for fifty-two years ay Tybee Island. Jack was Honorably Discharged in 1944 in Seattle, WA. Jack was a longtime member of the Tybee Island Marine Rescue Squadron 1A.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Shirley; daughter, Jackie Helms, son-in-law, Michael Helms and four grandchildren, Zachary, Kristy, Justin and Anna Helms and one great-granddaughter, Lorelai Helms; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Cary and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 12th at 10:00 AM with Navy Honors. Pastor Wayne Cobb of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer will be officiating.
Pallbearers: Michael Helms, Zachary Helms, Justin Helms, James Stettler, Paul Jackson and Robert Cary.

Dear Shirley, My daughter, Debi Burk Scott, and I would like to extend our condolences to you. We remember having dinner with you and Jack at the Republican Club meetings, although some years ago now. My late wife, Anne, and I always enjoyed sitting with you and sharing dinner and stories! Wish we had kept in touch more. God Bless you and your family, now and always. You are wonderful folk!
