Celebrating the life of
L.M. "Red" Anderson, Jr.
April 29, 1918 - August 26, 2009
L.M. "Red" Anderson, Jr., 91, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at his beloved Isle of Hope home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Anderson was born in Statesboro, GA on April 19, 1918, the son of the late Lattie M. and Ella Waters Anderson. The Red Anderson tradition began on October 1, 1943 when he and his wife Bobbie opened their first business, a watch repair shop at the old Liberty Bank Building. The business began during the years of WWII when parts and material were hard to come by so many of them had to be handmade by Red. This dedication to customer satisfaction led to the expansion of Red Andersons Jewelry business. In April of 1969 he and his two sons moved their business to the fine jewelry department of Belk Department Store which was a part of the new Oglethorpe Mall. It is at this location the store began offering the sale of fine jewelry and watches, as well as appraisal and custom design services. In September of 1982 the store expanded to a second location at the Hyatt Regency Hotel to serve the downtown clientele more conveniently. The economic and financial growth which the Oglethorpe Mall had caused allowed Red Anderson to again expand to the Mall at Shelter Cove, Hilton Head Island, SC in April of 1988. In August of 1990 the Savannah Mall was built and with the third generation of his family now involved in the business, Red was again blessed to open another store at Belk, Savannah Mall to further enhance the reputation of quality and personalized service. Almost 50 years after the first business was started Anderson & Son Jewelers was opened in 1991 on Eisenhower Drive. What Red Anderson started as a watch repair shop is now a household name fine jewelry store that is nationally recognized.
Aside Mr. Andersons impressive career he was also civically involved, being a member of Roger Lacey Lodge #722 F.& A.M. and the Alee Shrine where he was active in the Greeters Unit. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was part of the Good Neighbor Sunday School Class.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bobbie Sumner Anderson; sons, Robert W. "Bob" Anderson, Sr. and wife Janice of Richmond Hill and James M. Anderson of Savannah; daughter, Juli A. Cox and husband Gene of Newington; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Fay Hill of Statesboro and Gloria Cirincione of Savannah.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ruiz and the staff of Hospice Savannah for their kind care and attention to detail that they unselfishly afforded Mr. Red Anderson.

Whether you knew him as Red, Pepa, or Mr. Anderson, he was the best man that anyone could know. Of course if you mention the Anderson name, the community automatically links it wil Anderson Jewelers. He was far beyond a jeweler. He was hilarious, sweet, and very caring. He wanted to know everything about you. From day on that I met Mr. Anderson, he wanted to know everything about me. In doing so, we always had the best conversations. I'll miss going to visit him because I'll truely miss our conversations. To the family, I think you all know that you can call upon me for anything you need. No matter what time or how far away I am, I will be there for you. We love and miss you, Pepa!
