Celebrating the life of
Nancy W. Loe
December 26, 1928 - September 15, 2010
SKIDAWAY ISLAND – Nancy Warlick Loe, who loved her husband, Fred, her family, her friends, Savannah, hunting for seashells, and painting in watercolors – and who never failed to take delight in the view over the marshes – died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the age of 81. She enjoyed life right up to the end, having recently returned from a weeklong trip to Captiva Island, Florida, where she and Fred celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family.
She was born and grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she met her true love, then recently returned from WWII, on the campus of Southern Methodist University. Once both had graduated, they were married and soon embarked on a series of closely-spaced moves, thanks to his career in the oil industry. From Houston to Montana to Los Angeles, she collected devoted friends wherever they went.
Once their two daughters were out of elementary school, she began a career as a nursery school teacher, showing a special gift for reaching autistic children. During the many years that she and Fred spent in Houston, she also served as an advocate for troubled children. After retiring to Skidaway, she shared her gifts by teaching Sunday School at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church and mentoring students in inner-city Savannah as a volunteer with the L.O.V.E. Local Outreach Volunteer Educators program. She also cultivated her artistic talent through the Landings Art Association, serving at one time as president.
An avid traveler who managed to see most corners of the globe, she carried on a decades-long love affair with Scotland. The only other place she may have loved as much was Skidaway, whose delicately colored and ever changing marshes appealed to her artist's eye.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Fred; daughters Victoria Loe Hicks and Joanna Loe Allaire; sons-in-law Tracy Hicks and Steve Allaire; grandchildren Lauren Allaire Goldsberry and Kyle Allaire; grandson-in-law Bobby Goldsberry; and niece Becky Warlick Sullivan, her husband, Bill, and their son, Austin.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2010 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that well-wishers send donations to L.O.V.E. Mentors Inc., 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411.

I read your obituary, and it got to me. I didn't know Mrs. Loe, I just felt that I had known her and I that I had an insight to her character. Thank you. I'm not known for sending condolences. This just called for one.
