George C. Yonke

Savannah- George C. Yonke, 85, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at Azalealand Nursing Home.
George was born in Tampa, Florida on December 12, 1925 but lived in Savannah for most of his adult life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII and the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Murphy-Richardson Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Savannah, and the Landrum Lodge #48 F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife of sixty three years, Betty C. Yonke of Savannah; daughter, Carolyn Pierce and her husband, Dennis of Tybee Island, and niece, Pamela Murcell Cullen and her husband, Pat of Eldorado, CA.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Savannah. Burial will follow in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
