Helen Martin Rice
SAVANNAH – Helen Martin Rice, 84, of Savannah, GA, passed away July 14, 2012 at Savannah Specialty Care.
Born in Summerton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Norman Martin and the late Helen Martin. She retired after 44 years as a school teacher with the Chatham County Board of Education. She loved spending time with the children in her classroom but especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Mrs. Rice loved teaching and sharing her love of science! She was a well respected woman in education and well loved by all of her former students! She also taught on the Magic Tumble Bus for 9 years and made a difference in pre-schoolers' lives as well.
She adored her late husband, Mervyn A. Rice, and is survived by her two sons, Robin Weston Rice and Mervyn A. Rice, Jr. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Rice, Emily Lauran Rice, Matthew Albert Rice and Nicholas James Rice; her brother, Robert Martin of Summerton, SC and her sister, Catherine Brazeal of Westminster, SC.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday evening at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, from 6-8 pm.
Graveside Funeral Services for Helen Martin Rice will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
