Russell F. "Rusty" Ashley

Russell F. "Rusty" Ashley, 50, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Candler Hospital. He was born in Savannah and was a graduate of Johnson High School. Rusty was a former member of Morningside Baptist Church and was currently employed as a mechanic with Barry's Muffler and Brake Center. He was a member of Tybee Island Masonic Lodge No. 762 F.&A.M. and Alee Temple Shrine. His maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Murphy and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Ashley preceded him in death.

Surviving are his parents, Bobby and Barbara Ashley of Savannah; sister, Sherry Turner and her husband, Michael of Savannah; niece, Ashley Fischer and her husband, Edward of Cleveland, OH; nephew, Michael Turner, Jr. of Savannah; aunts, Ellie Coursey of Savannah, Gail Downing and her husband, Richard of Savannah; uncle, Russell Ashley and his wife, Phyllis of Lawrenceville, GA; cousins, Douglas Owen of Ellabell and Jamie Coursey of Savannah; best friend since childhood, Barry Wardlaw of Savannah; longtime companion, Angela Todaro Ashley of Savannah and a number of other cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, conducted by Reverend James Sapp. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
