Clarence B. "C.B." Lamar, Jr.
February 22, 1941 - May 21, 2016
SAVANNAH - Clarence B. “C.B.” Lamar, Jr., age 75, died May 21, 2016 at Hospice Savannah after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. C.B. was born February 22, 1941, in Walterboro, SC, to the late Clarence B. Lamar, Sr. and Lucy Hull Lamar. He spent the first part of his life in SC before moving to Savannah. In 1960, he graduated 2nd in his class as Cadet Major Exec from Carlisle Military School, Bamberg, SC, and was in the U.S. Army, stationed for 2 years in Germany.
Upon his return, he worked at the Savannah Fire Department; however, the biggest part of his life was spent working on the docks, retiring with 37 years of service from Stevens Shipping Company where he worked first as an agent and later as stevedore foreman.
C.B. was a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah; a 50+ year Mason, being a member of Landrum Lodge #48, Scottish Rite, Patrol Unit of Alee Shriners, Culinary Committee of Alee Shriners, Chairman of the “10 Grand Party”, Past President of Savannah Shag Club, and Volunteer Chief of Southside Fire Department at Wilmington Island. He was recently bestowed the honor of “Emeritus Captain” of the Patrol, having served as Captain for many years.
Survivors include Loxie Thigpen Lamar; John (Charlene) Lamar of Statesboro, Georgia; Leigh Ann (Paul) Moriarty of Niceville, Florida; and the loves of his life, his two grandsons, Hunter Lamar and Joshua Moriarty. Also, his sisters, Dianne Robinson and Barbara Helmly. “Bella”, his Boston Terrier, was his constant companion.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Stephen Malone for his caring treatment and friendship, as well as all his doctors, the staff at Memorial Hospital and at Hospice Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Savannah in Chippewa Square.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be members of the Alee Patrol and Honorary Pallbearers will be graduates of Carlisle Military School.
