SAVANNAH – Leah Smith Cook, age 101, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, in Savannah. A native of Stilson, Georgia she was a lifetime resident of Savannah. Mrs. Cook was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church, where she and her husband were part of the founding membership in 1954. She was secretary for the church for more than thirty years and was a member of the choir. Mrs. Cook was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and received her 30 Year Pin upon retirement.

Surviving are her daughter, Laura Cook Wimbish; two grandchildren, Shaffer Burke “Shack” Wimbish III and his wife, Marla, and Mary Burke Wimbish Nadeau and her husband, Mike; two great-granddaughters, Mary Margaret Wimbish and Elisabeth Lee Wimbish; several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy E. Cook.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerry Claxton officiating.

The family is forever grateful to the staff of Azalealand Nursing Home for the kind compassion and devoted care shown to Mrs. Cook.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to Southside Baptist Church, 5525 Skidaway Rd., Savannah, GA 31406 or to a charity of your choice.
