Celebrating the life of
Susan B. Wuori
July 30, 1950 - October 27, 2016
TYBEE ISLAND - Susan Bea Wuori, 66, of Tybee Island, GA, peacefully passed away on October 27th, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA.
Susan was born in White Plains, NY to Leo A. Wuori and Virginia Buell Wuori on July 30, 1950. She attended schools in Briar Cliff and Ithaca, NY. She graduated from Cortland University in 1972 and received her Master’s Degree from Georgia Southern. Susan worked in several school districts in the United States for over 30 years, including the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools and the Beaufort County School District in South Carolina. Susan was a devoted educator and counselor, touching and helping many young lives. After retirement in 2013, Susan volunteered for the Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project and the Tybee Island Light House. If she was not out dawn patrolling for the Turtle Project, she was enjoying her favorite spot on Tybee’s North Beach exploring what nature would bring to her.
Susan is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Leo A. Wuori, her mother, Virginia Buell Wuori, and a brother, Kirby Wuori.
Ms. Wuori is survived by her daughter, Von S. Clarke, granddaughter, Serina V. Doolittle, grandson, Thomas Diaz, and brothers, Stephen Wuori, and Kenneth Wuori.
Susan’s life was one full of adventure and excitement. She loved traveling, fishing, boating, cooking, and gardening. As a 25-year friend of Bill W., Susan based her entire life on service to others and giving to her community. Her happiness and love of life was infectious. She had the biggest heart, full of love, which will be missed dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 3rd, 2016, at The All-Saints Episcopal Church of Tybee Island, GA with the Reverend John Anderson officiating.
There will be a memorial on the following day, Friday, November 4, 2016, at 6:00 pm on the North Beach of Tybee Island. Paper lanterns will be lit and will float in the air over Susan’s favorite part of the beach in honor of her life and her legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the local chapter of the ASPCA, The Tybee Sea Turtle Project C/O The Tybee Island Marine Science Center 1509 Strand Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328, or The Tybee Lighthouse Association, 30 Meddin Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328 in her memory.

Miss Susan, Our little neighborhood won't be the same without you. We'll miss seeing you and Lucy on your daily walks to wherever the wind would take her, stories of your adventures and misadventures, and seeing a cloud of dust as you zoomed off for Turtle Duty. May the Tybee Light shine on you always.

I could not have survived my first year working in Savannah GA without Susan. She taught me so much. She was tough but cared so much about the students we worked with. She once told me if she talked too much I could tell her to shut up, but I never did. She had so much wisdom to share.
