John E. "Jack" Ciucevich, Jr.

1960 Graduate Benedictine Military School
John E. “Jack” Ciucevich, Jr. 75, passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born and raised in Savannah, Jack was reared in the Catholic faith and attended BSS and Benedictine Military School where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1960. As a senior at BC, he joined the 165th Georgia Air National Guard in which he served for six years.
He married his wife of 51 years, Betty Ann Flynn, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and were blessed to have sons, Johnny and Bobby. In 1969, an auto accident changed their lives dramatically. Betty Ann continued as a R.N. at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Jack returned to the Georgia Ports Authority. He later decided a “career change” was in order and became a stay at home Dad assuming all the household duties and being there for their sons in their developmental years.
He remained physically active doing such activities as bench pressing, “rolling” in the streets of Wilshire, or building the backyard fence. Since he enjoyed driving, they took many vacations. For their 25th wedding anniversary Betty Ann and Jack took the trip of a lifetime – a 19 day self-guided tour of the New England states.
Jack loved Tybee and the family beach house – the Collins Cottage, where he spent his summers as a child and later introduced his sons to the joys of the Back River.
He was proud of his Benedictine heritage – his father, sons, and grandson all graduated from BC thereby making the family a fourth generation legacy. He was a faithful attendee of the Monday Night Class of 1960 monthly gathering at Johnny Harris.
His greatest enjoyment was visiting with and being involved with his four grandchildren.
He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Mary Queen of Peace Council #10687, where he was a Third Degree Knight. His Catholic faith deepened as he aged and was a faithful communicant of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church for over 43 years.
He achieved many “comebacks” in successfully battling the many complications of paraplegia and MDS. He quietly rolled through life providing inspiration without trying to inspire.
He is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Collins Ciucevich; his mother-in-law Johanna B. Flynn and brother-in-law James J. Flynn. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Flynn Ciucevich; sons John E. III and Robert A. Ciucevich (Kara); grandchildren Teagan Prodin and Kael, Mary Collins, and Willa Ciucevich; and his brother Michael T. Ciucevich (Ingrid).
His cousins will serve as pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Benedictine Class of 1960 and the Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel followed by the Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made in his memory to Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.

While I was sorry to hear of Jack's passing, I was so happy to hear that he lived a full and productive life following his accident. Jack was one of my first patients after moving to Savannah and I remember and admired him for his tenacity and determination. I also remember Betty Ann and her unwavering devotion to Jack. Betty Ann had to assume the role of bread winner,wife, mother and caretaker and both my wife and I admired her greatly as she seemed to excel at all of her roles. May Jack rest in peace.

We were so sad to hear that Mr. Jack had passed. Randy thought a lot of him and knew that Mr. Jack thought of him the same. Randy will miss him sitting outside watching him cut the yard. My family lives next door to Jack and his family for quite a few years on 57th St. We were so close that we even shared a party line. We all have many memories of growing up on a dirt Street Our families we're more than neighbors we were friends. Jack will be remembered by a lot of people with many memories to be shared.
