Mary Barry Edgerly Pitts, 73, died peacefully surrounded by family on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Mary was born in Savannah. She worked for the City of Tybee Island in the meter department before moving on to the Tybee Police Department. She later pursued a career as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal for several local attorneys. A lifelong communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, she was instrumental in developing guidelines for the use of GCIC (Georgia Crime Information Center) terminals, which remain in effect today. Mary also volunteered for the Annual Irish Festival.

She loved vacationing with her family, spending time at home, and attending the Georgia-Florida games.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Barry and Gertrude McCoy Barry, who were from Limerick, Ireland; and her brothers, Kevin and Richard Barry.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Harry Pitts III; her loving sons, Lawrence E. (Bubba) Edgerly (Alicia) and Ricky Edgerly (Amnesti); her daughters, Tina Edgerly (Kenny) and Brigid Pitts; her cherished granddaughter, Maggie Edgerly; her siblings, Sheila Barry (Sandi), Bernie Taylor, John Barry and Chrissy Patton along with several nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives from the Emerald Isle. She also leaves behind two lifelong friends, Julia Dyer Strickland and Carole Fine.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel. A rosary service will start at 10:30 a.m., just prior to the main service. A reception will follow at American Legion, Post 154, 10 Veterans Drive, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
