Shirley Mae Herd Ewing

Shirley Mae Herd Ewing was born on September 13th, 1935, in Wichita, Kansas.  She left the earth on March 14, 2026, at the age of 90 in Savannah, Georgia. She excelled at being a mother, and was an accomplished author, publishing 4 books and numerous magazine pieces. She was an adventuress of land and sea.  A lifetime of world travels included sailing across seas and exploring more than 40 countries - a true renaissance woman.  She inspired others with her love and knowledge of wildlife and history as a zoo docent and historical society guide.  Her enthusiasm for life was shared with all who met her and with those who loved her.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harold Eugene Herd, and her husband, Dean Ewing.  She is survived by her sons, Michael DeGood of Round Mountain, Australia, Mark DeGood (Donna) of Rincon, Georgia, her sister, Suzanne Mencer (John) of Scottsdale, Arizona, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a niece and nephew. Hers was a life well-lived.
