Celebrating the life of

Francisco Jose de la Sierra

May 29, 1947 - January 08, 2026

Francisco Jose de la Sierra

Francisco (Frank) Jose de la Sierra was a beloved husband, father (Dad), grandfather (Papi), brother and family member. He is predeceased by his mother, Otilia Rodriguez Crusellas and his father, Jose Rafael de la Sierra de los Santos, both of Havana, Cuba. Frank met Anne Beasley in 1979, married in 1982, and started a family in 1987. Frank loved spending time with his family beginning when his girls were very young, coaching their soccer, basketball and softball teams. He loved going boating, spending time at the beach, camping and taking his family to the lake every year for fishing and swimming and skiing. He was very involved with their ballet, served on the board of the Savannah Danse Company and assisted with the Company’s performances by arranging for the orchestras to play at the Nutcracker.

Frank was one of the fund raisers for St. Peter the Apostle church and for the additions to St. Peter the Apostle school, as well as serving on the school Auction committee for many years.

Frank was a member of the Islands Exchange Club, Leadership Savannah, St. Peter the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Board member of Tybee Terrace Cottages and served as President for several years. He was instrumental in getting many improvements made, such as replacing the water and sewer lines, new sidewalks, drainage, and roof repair/replacement.

Frank immigrated from Havana, Cuba, to New York City in 1960. He attended Monsignor McClancey high school and went on to attend Villanova University. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and then Savannah, Georgia. Frank’s career in Savannah was one filled with many amazing accomplishments regarding relocations of utilities, railroads and parts of small towns to accommodate the development of dams and lakes on the Savannah River. He was instrumental in securing $325 million in contracts for Environmental clean up programs of formerly used Defense sites for all of the Southeast. After his retirement from the Corps, he continued his career in support of the Army as a Project Manager for construction projects at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, and then again at Installation Management Command in San Antonio for all installations worldwide.

Frank is survived by his wife, Anne, his daughter, Maggie de la Sierra and granddaughters, Sierra-Ruth and Otilia, his daughter, Mercedes de la Sierra, her wife, Nataly, and granddaughter, Elena, and his soon to be grandson. He is also survived by his brother, Rafael de la Sierra and his wife, Maitica, his sister, Cristina Gonzalez and her husband Toni and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be remembered as an extremely kind and generous person.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410.
