Celebrating the life of

Edward James Carey

January 07, 1933 - October 19, 2025

Edward James Carey

Edward James Carey, 92, of Savannah, GA passed away peacefully on October 19th after a devoted and fulfilling life.

Ed was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1933 and raised in Walden, NY, the son of John and Nan Carey. After graduating from Walden high school he went on to graduate from St Bonaventure University. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957 on the USS Ticonderoga which operated throughout the Mediterranean. Shortly after completing his service he married the love of his life, Lynne.

Ed had a unique and successful 38 year career with General Motors traveling to 109 countries across six continents. Over those years, Ed and Lynne lived in New Jersey, Connecticut, Hawaii, Greece, Belgium and Michigan before retiring to The Landings in 1994.

In retirement, Ed pursued his three main passions: family, golf and helping others. He loved having visitors come and enjoy all that Savannah and the Landings have to offer. Family, friends, friends of friends and soon-to-be friends were always welcome. He was an active member of St James the Less Roman Catholic Church where he volunteered regularly often attending Mass daily to give thanks to God for all his many blessings.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, relative, colleague and friend, Ed’s lifelong pursuit was to help others become better today than they were yesterday. A motto he himself tried to live by.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lynne, daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Peter Rossi of Phoenix (NY), son John and daughter-in-law Nicole Carey of Blackstone (MA), daughter Maureen Carey and son-in-law Perry Slaughter of the Landings, son Michael and daughter-in-law Athena Carey of Plymouth (MA) and his eight grandchildren Chris, Jaclyn, Jenna, Shane, Madeleine, Lauren, Matthew and Nathan, and three great grandchildren Jay, Lauren and Jack. He was predeceased by his two adored and loving twin sisters, Maureen Schiller and Helene McGinnity.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory Edward James Carey to the St. James Catholic School, 8412 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406

Mr. Carey always pleasant and thankful he enjoyed socializing with friends and stayed active as he was capable of doing. In the mornings I would see him with his Rosary beads in his hand, his wife by his side both sitting in their chairs getting ready to start another blessed day together. Edward Carey was a Kind soul and it was a Honor and a pleasure to have gotten to know him these past months. I know he is at Peace in Heaven a place of so beautiful that we can only image.
