George Porter Martin
April 17, 1942 - August 27, 2025

George Porter Martin, age 83, passed away on August 27, 2025 in Savannah, Georgia. He was born on April 17, 1942 in Valdosta, Georgia. He moved to Savannah as a small child and spent the rest of his life as a Wilmington Island resident. He was one of eight children to Fred Arnold Martin and Emily Heidel Martin.
George was a 1960 graduate of Savannah High School. Shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. While he was on active duty training, George and his unit marched in the inaugural parade of President John F. Kennedy. After leaving the Coast Guard George began his career as an ironworker, following in the footsteps of his father and brothers. In 1972, George joined Savannah Blueprint Co as general manager and later became president. As a leader of the reprographics industry in Savannah for over 50 years, he founded Chatham Reprographics, Augusta Reprographics, Statesboro Reprographics, and Island Repro. He was past President of Southeastern Reprographics Association and past President and lifetime member of the Savannah Chapter of American Business Club. He was also a member and past President of the German Friendly Society of Savannah, member of the German Heritage Society of Savannah and the Savannah Exchange Club. He was also a past member of Ironworkers Local Union 709.
George was a lifelong member of the St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a youth advisor and a church council member for several years. George was a kind, generous man who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. His humor kept others laughing and smiling, and his baby blue eyes were endearing to all those he gazed upon.
On December 14, 1963, George married his wife of 61 years, Emily Diane Felser Martin. I recall talking with George, in the dew, a few times. George would speak of times with his family and growing up and stories of " We'll see" Times later I saw an older film with a nautical theme. The name of the boat was "we'll see" Told him of it We both had a good laugh!!! Richard DeWald
