Celebrating the life of
Lieutenant Colonel Cheryl Allen, USAF, Retired
April 01, 1955 - July 25, 2025

Lt. Colonel Cheryl Allen passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Cheryl was born on April 1, 1955, in Landstuhl, Germany, and was raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Central Dauphin High School in 1973 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Penn State University, completing her undergraduate clinical training at The Hershey Medical Center. She later obtained a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Alabama and a Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Texas.
Cheryl had a strong desire to serve her country, so she joined the United States Air Force, dedicating 20 years of her life to military service, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Her military career was her greatest passion, and she served heroically in Operation Desert Storm. After returning home, she would often joke, "I learned to hate sand in Saudi Arabia."
After retiring, Cheryl moved to Savannah to be closer to family and accepted a position as a Nurse Practitioner in a physician's private practice. However, she missed military life and eventually returned to a medical unit at Hunter Air Base, from which she also retired. Cheryl was a longtime member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Cheryl is predeceased by her stepfather, Leonard DaCamara; her father, Clinton Allen; and a sister, Su "Van" Robbins.
Cheryl is survived by her mother, Arla DaCamara; her stepbrother, Randy DaCamara; and her half-sister, Peg Brisbon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a military organization of your choice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Skidaway Island Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Hale Bishop and Rev. Ben Martin. Inurnment with U.S. Air Force Honors will follow in the church garden.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the excellent doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital Neuro ICU for the care they provided to Cheryl during her time there.
I am so sorry that we lost Cheryl. She was an active member of Wesley Monumental UMC. She was proud veteran. Prayers for her mother.

Cheryl was my friend and mentor. I am so sad to hear that she passed. We were stationed at Clark AB in the Philippines where we became roomates and lifelong friends. She was smart, hard working and professional but fun. She was the AF Officer that I always wanted to be. I envied her educational achievements and the high level positions that she held when she was an AF Flight Nurse. When you are in the military your friends are scattered but we never lost touch. I visited her family home in Pennsylvania and enjoyed seeing her mother's large Snow Village collection. I visited her in Illinois. I loved hearing stories of her life above the butcher shop in Germany. I visited her many times in Savannah and celebrated St Patricks day with her in 2014. I last visited her in Savannah on June 15. She was in severe pain and I could tell she was suffering. The world has lost a special women. My heart is sad that I have lost my amazing friend. Rest in peace Cheryl. Arla, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I was sorry to hear about Cheryl's passing. She was a good friend of mine through Wesley UM Church. She was extremely intelligent, warm and caring. I'll miss not seeing her but know she's at peace. Prayers for her whole family. Fondly, Bonnie Delvers

Our friendship began during her assignment to Ramstein Air Base Germany, while I was stationed nearby at Landstuhl Army Medical Center. From the start, Cheryl's warmth and spirit were unmistakable. We spent free time on weekends exploring Europe, sharing laughter, stories, and the kind of adventures that forge lifelong bonds. Even after our careers in the Air Force came to a close, our friendship endured. Though miles apart, we remained close--planning annual vacations and never missing our weekly, Sunday afternoon chats. Cheryl was a proud and accomplished Air Force officer, a compassionate and skilled practitioner, and above all, a true friend. Her integrity, kindness, and unwavering support touched everyone who knew her. I will miss her deeply. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and served. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family and all who were fortunate enough to call her friend. Rest in peace my friend.

Ann and I offer our condolences to Cheryl's family for their loss. I first met Cheryl when I was working at the 57th Air Evac Squadron at Scott AFB, IL. Her wisdom, personality and her work efforts were impressive. At my last assignment at HQ USAEF/SGX I needed a replacement for a nurse that was leaving, and I asked our Chief Nurse, Col. Nancy Cauldwell if I could have Cheryl for our nurse's slot that was open. Col Caldwell worked her magic and soon Cheryl was on our staff. Cheryl fit right in and shared giving Lt. Col. Gene Raynaud, Capt. Terry Broussard and many others on my staff a hard time and joking as we all worked to downsize our readiness programs after the Berlin Wall fell. Ann and I were fortunate to visit Cheryl several years after our retirement in Savahanna. Al of us in SGX were blessed to have Cheryl in our group. I am sure she will be greeting each of us when we reach Heaven. God bless you Cheryl for all that you have given us and your service to the United States Air Force. Lt. Col Dave Boyum, Ret.
