Celebrating the life of

James Charlie Connelly, Jr.

February 15, 1947 - October 08, 2023

James Charlie Connelly, Jr.

James Charlie Connelly Jr.

Jim passed away Sunday October 8, 2023. Born in Painted Post New York (1947), Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Gene Ann (Martindell) Connelly, both WWII Navy Veterans, and brother William (Bill). Connelly.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen (Jackson), and sons, Brian (Michelle Lehr) and Andrew (Amanda).  He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Sarah (Martinez), Lilli, Abilene, and Anica.

After the death of his mother in 1964, Jim moved from Rochester, New York to Savannah to live with his Uncle (Edward Connelly) and finished his senior year at H. V. Jenkins High School.  He attended both Georgia Southern College and the University of Georgia graduating from GSC with a BS in mathematics in 1969.

Jim was a self-employed (retired) Certified Public Accountant.  He frequently volunteered his talents to serve as treasurer or accountant for several organizations. Jim was Past Master of Zerubbabel Lodge #15, and a member of Alee Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters, and The Exchange Club of Savannah, often serving as the clubs’ accountant or treasurer for the various organizations.

Jim loved riding his motorcycle, logging many 1,000 mile days and traveling in 49 of the 50 states.  His favorite place to ride was in the mountains, enjoying the “long sweepers” and the companionship of his fellow riders. Since his retirement, he has cherished the company of his granddaughters, watching the Braves and Georgia Bulldogs on TV, and keeping up with his friends on Facebook.

A private viewing will be held at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Memorial Chapel for the family. A Masonic funeral service will be held on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, The Masonic Home of Georgia, or Hospice of Savannah.
