James Frederick Shonerd

November 22, 1939 - July 15, 2023

James Frederick Shonerd

James (Jim) Frederick Shonerd, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 15th, 2023, in Savannah, Georgia. He was born on November 22nd, 1939, in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late George and Edith (Davis) Shonerd.

Jim served six years in the Navy and later worked as an installation foreman for the telephone company. In Washington, he met the love of his life Lou, who he married on June 5, 1960. They later moved back to Iowa where they raised their two daughters Lynn and Deborah.

Jim loved hunting, shooting pool, and riding his Harley. Prior to his death, Jim won the hearts of many residents and staff at The Social, where he resided. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by many.

Jim is survived by his sister Norma (William) Hoehndorf of The Villages FL, sister-in-law Lee (Dale) Assing of Cassville, MO, son in-law Timothy Fischer of Brunswick, GA, granddaughter Elizabeth (Curtis) Childree of Savannah, GA, grandsons James Fischer and Karl Fischer of Brunswick, GA and Austin Shonerd of Ceder Rapids, IA, great granddaughters Isabel Childree, Holly (Christopher) Flores of Duluth, MN and Skyler Fischer of Brunswick, GA, and great great granddaughter Nevaeh Childree of Savannah, GA.

Jim was predeceased by his parents George and Edith, his wife Lou, along with his two daughters, Lynn Shonerd and Deborah Fischer.

Per Jim’s request, there will be no memorial service held.

I worked with Jim in Cedar Rapids, IA in the early 80’s. We had some good times and I will always cherish those memories. He always made me laugh. So sorry to hear about his passing.

- Marta (he called me Myrtle), Robins, Iowa
