Celebrating the life of

Wilma "Penny" Shearouse Lane

October 06, 1929 - March 14, 2018

Wilma

Wilma "Penny" Shearouse Lane of Thunderbolt, 88, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on March 14, 2018, surrounded by her daughters. Penny as she was known most of her life was born on October 6, 1929 to John and Elma Shearouse. She married Hal Lane Sr. and started her life as a wife and a year later became a mother. Hal joined the Army and she became a military wife. The military took them all over the world and she would make a new home for her growing family at each stop. After retiring, she and her family moved into their home in Thunderbolt where she resided until her passing. Penny was a member of Thunderbolt Baptist Church, Thunderbolt Garden Club, Thunderbolt Senior Citizens, Thunderbolt Fisherman's Memorial, the Chatham County Library Board, and many bowling league teams just to name a few. Through the years she had many hobbies including reading, bowling, playing bunco, crocheting, and doing crafts. But nothing made her happier than spending time with her family and friends. Penny loved and adored her siblings John Shearouse Jr (Mary), Mildred Mullis (Tessell), Nell Hagins (Woodrow), and Julia Lewis (James); she spoke of them often and missed them daily. She was preceded in death by her husband COL Hal C. Lane Sr, a son John M. Lane, and two daughter-in-laws Linda Lane and Maria Wance. She is survived by 3 daughters, Gloria Moak (Walter), Deby Lain (Chris) and Dede Clay (Jaime), all from Wilmington Island, and 2 sons, Hal Lane Jr (Janelle) of Ellabelle and Ricky Lane of Thunderbolt. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Scott Moak (Sarah), Megan Hodgson (Geoff), Cecelia Lane (Austin), Jeff Lane, Sheppie Adams (Wes), Stephen Russell, Chelsey Pevey (Josh), Christopher Lain (Katherine), Jacob Lane, Caitlyn Lain, Rebecca Lane and 11 great grandchildren, Holly and Hayden, Grace, Abbie, Bryant, Elle, Makenzie, Waylon, A.J., Lane Marie and Annaleigh. Services will be held at Fox and Weeks Island Chapel with Visitation Sunday from 2-4 pm and Funeral Services Monday at 11 am. A special thanks to all the members of Penny Lane's medical team who never gave up on her.
