Celebrating the life of

Frank "Tom" Vaughn

January 13, 1948 - June 10, 2023

Frank

Frank Thomas Vaughn (Tom), 75, died peacefully at home on Saturday June 10th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born in Aiken, SC to mother Alice Hill. He was adopted by his loving father Leighton Vaughn in 1956. He grew up in a military family living most of his youth in Augusta, GA and Frederick, MD. He loved telling stories of his childhood adventures that involved setting his bed on fire looking for his boots and pulling the kitchen cabinets off the walls while he climbed on the counters. In high school, he found a passion for running track in school. After high school, he joined the Army and served in Korea. If he ever told you an Army story, it likely involved adopting goats on the side of a mountain while he worked in a Comms unit.

In 1980, Tom met Evelyn Zyne of Miami, FL and they were married the following year on April 10th, 1981. Tom has two children and eight grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted father and the king of all Dad Jokes. He loved volunteering to support the schools and athletics, always being the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines. His favorite pastimes were watching Georgia sports, whether it was Saturday UGA football games or countless Braves games and hosting many famous oyster roasts on Super Bowl Sundays. He retired from Standard Coffee in 2012, where he was well known all around Savannah as “Tom the Coffee Man.” He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island, volunteering on committees and playing in the church volleyball league.

On any Monday night, you could find Tom on a tennis court with some of his closest friends. He was a very active member of the local tennis league, often serving as Team Captain and his team went to State Championships many times.

Tom had a soft spot for all animals. A bird, lovingly called Sammy, adopted him and for years they would seemingly have conversations whistling back & forth constantly. His favorite above all others is his beloved Lili. Tom went to the local hardware store on a normal weekend errand and came home with a dog. He & Lili were inseparable, mowing the lawn together, napping together, and going for rides in his truck.

In addition to his wife Evelyn, Tom leaves behind daughters Amy Fabian (Thom) of Greenville, SC and Allison Stephanuik(Scott) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Vivienne, Aslan, Guinevere, Loreli, Crusoe, Ivy Wyn, Ryleigh, and Rhett; siblings Jean, Claudia, and Leighton, Jr. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice, his father, Leighton, and brother Paul.

A visitation service will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday June 17th at 10am, followed by funeral mass at 11am. Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery.
