To the Lentz and Broderick families, please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your dear Betty. Although I never met her, in many ways I feel as if I knew her and the rest of your family intimately. You see, my ex-husband and I bought the old Broderick family bungalow on East 52nd Street in 1976. Once we had settled in an elderly neighbor gave me the name of the man who built it, Ed Broderick, and said that he owned a plumbing company downtown. They also told me that Mr. Broderick died at a young age and left behind a wife and several children to live in the house that he had completed in 1929. After seeing the notice of Betty’s passing I now realize that my home was the house where she and her siblings spent their childhood years. I made the connection when I saw the photo of her in her wedding dress taken in front of the fireplace in the Broderick house, a setting that I was very familiar with from the 20+ years that I made that place my home. I wish that I had been able to connect with Betty and the rest of you before now but I do hope that once the family has had time to grieve and come to terms with such a great loss that you will contact me to reminisce. May her memory be a comfort to all of you. Susan Wainwright
