Celebrating the life of

Charles J. Roach, Jr.

October 03, 1942 - May 14, 2023

Charles J. Roach, Jr.

A Savannah native, Charles was born the eldest of three children. He is the son of Charles J. Roach Sr. and Nell Mullins Roach. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Roach, and their three children Kelli Roach Dorsey (Paul), Chuck Roach (Traci), Ashlei Roach McAleer (John) and his brother John E. Roach and sister, Cherolyn Roach Owenby. He has six beautiful grandchildren, whom he loved with exceptional passion: Delani Dorsey, Garrett and Avery Roach, Grier, Addison, and Mercy McAleer. He graduated from Herschel V. Jenkins high school, where he played football. He attended Georgia Southern University, earning an undergraduate degree in education, which was later followed by a Master’s degree in educational administration. He became an assistant principal at Bartlett Middle School, which is where he retired after 30 years of educational service. During his educational tenure, he served as a tutor at Bethesda Home for Boys for many years. Charles also served honorably in the Air National Guard.

Charles was a Master Gardner who found joy in planting, growing, and cultivating numerous fruits, vegetables, and flowers. His backyard treasures were a testament to his appreciation for God’s creation. He was an avid reader with worldly knowledge of many things. He enjoyed the active aspects of mechanical engineering, breaking things down to understand how they worked and how to make them better. He had a contagious sense of humor; laughter was never far from Charles.

An amazing testament to self-sacrifice, he was wholly committed to loving and supporting his family. His actions were never without great thought and consideration. He is cherished and will be remembered in the smiles and laughter of his children and grandchildren for generations to come.

Service for celebration of life will be a private, family event.
