Celebrating the life of

Payton Woodbury

August 22, 1992 - April 18, 2023

Payton Woodbury

Payton Woodbury passed away at his home on Skidaway Island on Tuesday, April 18th. He was 30.

Born on August 22,1992 at San Ramon Community Hospital, Payton grew up in California where he attended the San Ramon Valley Christian Academy, went to Monte Vista High School and graduated from California State University at San Francisco. He recently moved to Savannah, Georgia where he had just started a new job at Intuit.

Payton was an enthusiast. He was passionate about playing and watching sports—the Giants, the 49ers and the Warriors. From a very early age Payton excelled at football and baseball. He was passionate too about film—particularly classic films. Payton revered classic films because they so often highlight human complexity and the stories that result. Just a few  days before his death he had an animated conversation with his grandfather regarding Casablanca which they had just watched together. But Payton’s interest was not limited to old films; he saw every movie as soon as it came out and discussed each one intently. More than one person has commented that if Payton were not so good at sales and business he would make a fine film critic. Above all Payton was passionate about his family.

During college Payton worked with his mother, helping her develop her business, Cooking Buddy. They taught elementary school children the art of cooking.  But Payton thought that the more important lesson was for the children to learn to enjoy life. And the children loved him.

Payton’s impact upon everyone who met him was vivid and indelible.

He is survived and will always be remembered by his bereaved and loving family: His parents, Dianna and Spencer Woodbury;  his grandfather, Wayne Smith; his brother Tate Woodbury; his brother Bryson Woodbury and his wife Alex; and by his sister Elizabeth Woodbury. Payton was preceded in death by his older brother, Spencer Hunter Woodbury, Jr.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

They are all tethered, forever, together.
