James Lonnie Clanton Jr.

James (Jim) Lonnie Clanton, Jr. died April 18, 2023 in Savannah, GA.  He was the son of James Lonnie Clanton, Sr. and Doris Shuman Clanton.  Jim graduated from Savannah High School in 1956 .    Following graduation he served in the Air National Guard for five years.  He married Elizabeth Pflug and remained in Savannah, Georgia for the remainder of his life.  They celebrated 60 years of marriage in May, 2022. 

Jim was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Ascension since 1963 and served on numerous committees.  He also chaired the ushers for the church for many years.  Jim enjoyed being involved with the German Friendly Society and was their President for 2 years.  He also was a member of the Teutonic Council of Savannah and the Salzburger Society. 

He also enjoyed years of travel with his dear wife, music, and most of all his family.

His career life was in sales and management and following retirement he started his own business apparel company, which he still enjoyed working until he became ill.  

Surviving Jim is his wife Elizabeth, Daughter Andrea Clanton DeLoach, Son Kirk Anthony Clanton, Sister Doris Elizabeth Clanton, Granddaughters Madeline DeLoach Komic, Anna Christine DeLoach, Olivia Rose Clanton, and Grandson Andrew James Clanton. 

A graveside ceremony will be held at Greenwich Cemetery on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 9:00 AM.   The funeral service will be Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM to be held at The Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 120 Bull Street on Wright Square, Savannah, GA.  Following the Service, there will be a reception also at the church. 

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Ascension and Hospice of Savannah.
