Celebrating the life of

Nolan Fitzgerald Mell

April 21, 1986 - April 01, 2023

Nolan Fitzgerald Mell

Nolan Fitzgerald Mell left this life at age 36, on April 1, 2023, to rest peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus.

Nolan was born to Kathleen Russo and John Mell on April 21, 1986, just 12 months after his older brother, Brandon.

Nolan and Brandon could not have been any closer. Being only one year apart, they faced the world of every other weekends, split holidays, joint birthday parties, huge families, re-marriages, sibling additions, and many shared friends being only one year apart. They always had each other to lean on, fight with, drink with, create memories with, and love.

Nolan was preceded in death by his father, John Fitzgerald Mell; maternal grandmother, Clara McDonough Russo; paternal grandparents; Vic and Vergie Mell; and his beloved aunt, Katie Mell.

Nolan is survived and will be terribly missed by his beloved husband, Damon Christian-Mell; parents, Ronald and Kathleen Coppage; older brother, Brandon Mell (Heather); nephew, Jackson Martin; younger brother, Tucker Coppage (Maggie); sister, Agnes Elizabeth Coppage, and sister, Cecilia Buttimer (Jonathan). Nolan is also survived by his only living grandparent, Charles J. Russo, Jr.; and his in-laws, Darleen and James Butler.

Nolan has many aunts and uncles surviving which include Laura Summerlin (Billy), Vicki McCuen, Valerie Rogers (Danny), Bridget Moore (Craig), Julia Maxey (Gene), Cecilia Turner (Bob), Charles Russo (Cami), Kathy Brown (JB), Robert Coppage, Richard Coppage, dozens of cousins and extended family of great aunts and uncles. Nolan will be missed as a caring, compassionate, and loyal friend to many people.

Nolan attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School from Kindergarten through eighth grade. He was a 2004 graduate of Benedictine Military School, and a 2012 graduate of the University of Georgia. Since 2014, Nolan was employed by ILA Union 1475 as a checker clerk.

A Rosary will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, followed by a vistation from 12:00 until 2:00at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 4:00 until 8:00, Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Cohen's Retreat, 5715 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31406.

So very sad to hear of the passing of Nolan. He was such a big personality and had such a big heart! He leaves a big and unfillable void in the BC Class of 2004 alumni rolls. Not only was be beloved member of our class, but he volunteered his time and talent as the yearbook editor. Flipping back through it now reminds me of Nolan's humor and the many good times we all had together at BC. May God grant him eternal rest! He will be missed dearly.

- Joseph Simmons, Savannah, GA

Nolan was truly one of the brightest smiles I remember at "Ye Olde BSS." I was (and still am) admirable of his fearless energy and willingness to put himself out there into the spotlight (Peter Pan, Best Christmas Pageant Ever, etc.). Praying for the Mell, Coppage, Russo families, his husband Damon, and countless others will who miss his light. May his memory live on in the hearts of those (so many!) who loved him.
