Celebrating the life of

John Albert Dobbertin

Passed away on April 02, 2023

BIG JOHN

John Albert Dobbertin

John Albert Dobbertin “Big John”, 83, passed away April 2, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.  He was born March 18, 1940 in Rochester, New York and lived there until his buddies talked him into joining the Marines.  While at Paris Island, he met the love of his life, Lolo.  They married and had 56 wonderful years together, traveling, and cruising with friends.

He worked for Claxton Poultry as a salesman until he retired in 2000.  This didn’t slow him down, he volunteered as the Mysterious Santa for 20 years, and also at his American Legion Post 184, where he was a member for 50 years.  If someone had a need, he would do his best to help out.  He was a gentle giant that loved rocking babies, and all animals would gravitate to him.  He will be greatly missed.  John was a member of the Catholic faith, and loved the Lord with all his heart.  He was a loving family man, and lived for his family.

In addition to his wife, Delores “Lolo”, he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Robert Dobbertin and Vera Mountcastle Dobbertin.

Surviving are his son, Charles Dobbertin, daughters, Mandy Dobbertin Okorowski, and Mandy Stafford, sister, Roberta Dobbertin, grandsons, John Anthony Dobbertin, John Francis Okorowski, and granddaughter, Victoria Gaylord.

A Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel with his dear friend, Fr. Patrick O’Brien officiating.  Visitation will be after the service until 5:30 p.m.
