Celebrating the life of

Helen Barbara MacPherson

September 13, 1945 - February 21, 2023

Helen Barbara MacPherson

Helen Barbara MacPherson, 77, died peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

The Dorchester, MA native was born on September 13, 1945 to the late Robert and Barbara (Horton) Duncan.

Helen married David Daniel MacPherson on November 1, 1964 in Weymouth, MA and spent the next 58 years building a loving home for her family.  With a sixth-grade education, Helen was especially proud of passing her equivalency test with a score high enough that she a High School Diploma instead of a G.E.D..

Helen’s passion was her family.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen loved weekend time at Nana’s and Papa’s and was always a huge part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives.

An accomplished amateur bowler, Helen played tournaments around the world. She coached bowling for several years and was a member of several leagues in the Savannah area. She always looked forward to her annual tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Helen loved camping. She always looked forward to the annual camping trip where friends and family from all around would come together to spend time with one another. Helen enjoyed camping with her husband and family through Canada and the Eastern Sea coast. Even after Helen had limited mobility, she found a way to get around the campgrounds with scooters and grandchildren pushing her around.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by a brother, Robert, Jr.; sister, Nancy; and her granddaughter, Elena.

She leaves behind husband, David; a son, David, Jr.; a daughter, Lyda Jean; daughter in law  Rebecca; son in law Lewis; grandchildren, Kathleen, Laura, Jessica, John, Joshua, Daniel, and Christopher; two sisters, Glenda and Ann; and several great-grandchildren that loved her and will miss her dearly and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 2023 in Beaufort National Cemetery.

To Dave and all the kids - we are so sorry to hear of Helen’s sudden passing, but are relieved to know that she died peacefully and is now in heaven, with fellow family campers, who recently went to heaven, and will welcome her. A couple of my best memories are when we were camping, and Helen’s beloved bird got loose, Helen ran and ran after it through the campgrounds successfully catching it, even though the bird was flying and Helen was on foot. She wasn’t about to give up until she caught it. We also owe her thanks for having expert knowledge of the back roads of the New Hampshire mountains, and for her driving skills, leading us speedily in the dark with flashers flashing and and horns beeping in order to get her great nephew, who had been injured, to the North Conway hospital for treatment. We have tons of pictures and tons of memories and homeland will never be forgotten. Our love and thoughts and prayers go out to you Dave and all the kids.

Correction to my previous message. The last sentence was supposed to say Helen will never be forgotten not homeland will never be forgotten.
