Georgia Gail Allen Murphy died Sunday February 19, 2023, surrounded in love by family.   She was born March 13, 1937, in Statesboro, GA to George and Lucille Allen. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1955 and attended Armstrong College, graduating with an Associates degree in 1957.  She then attended the University of Georgia pursuing a degree in Physical Education, graduating in 1959.  Gail started her career at Myers middle school teaching Physical Education.  Gail went on to teach Physical Education and Health at Hancock day school where she was also the Varsity girls basketball head coach.  During this time, she attended Armstrong State College and received her Masters in Education.  After Hancock she went on to teach at Memorial Day School, Calvary Baptist Day School, and then at Wilder Middle School.  Gail finished her career at Coastal Middle School in 1998.  Gail was active in her church, Isle of Hope United Methodist, and worked for years in the United Methodist Women’s group there serving in ministry in many different ways, including their annual Day on the Island festival.  Gail was an avid bridge player and was always up for a game with her bridge club.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucille Allen and her brother Gary Allen Sr.  She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Charles Richard Murphy Sr.; her son, Charles Richard Murphy, Jr (Elizabeth) of Flowery Branch and her daughter Gina Gail Murphy (Kurt Vollinger), of Savannah; her grandchildren Aidan, Kathryn, and Patrick Murphy; her nephews, Gary Allen, Jr (Laurie) and Chris Allen, both of Savannah. 

The Memorial Service will be at 3 pm. on Thursday, February 23 at the Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

Charles,Richie, and Gigi, so sorry to hear about Gail! I was hoping to stop by to visit on my trip to SC to visit my sister, however my ability to get around has gotten worse and travel is not easy.
