Marian S. Proper, 91, of Savannah, GA, passed away at home late Saturday, February 18, 2023.  Marian was born to William X. and Ellen Leacy Smith in Savannah on July 13, 1931.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three siblings, William X. Smith, Jr., Eleanor S. Pierce and Walter L. Smith. 
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Leon E. Proper, and her three wonderful children, Leon, Jr. (Marian), Ellen Proper Brown (David) and Stephen (Lisa); her grandchildren, Lee Proper, Jeffery Standish (Ashlie), Leacy Shaffer (Craig), Mitchell Brown, Amber Williams, Daniel Williams (Fabian), Stephen Proper, and Gabrielle Proper and her six great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Marian attended high school at St. Vincent’s Academy, graduating in 1949, and studied at Armstrong College.  She was a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed many activities such as volunteering, baking, bowling, line dancing and traveling.  She was a founding communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church where she attended daily mass.  After mass, she could be seen at the Savannah Mall doing her mall walks at 90 years old.  She also enjoyed attending the Christian Women’s Association Luncheons.  Marian had many friends and was always striking up a conversation and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  

Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel on Thursday, February 23, 2023, with a Rosary service beginning at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 11500 Middleground Road, Savannah, GA 31419.
