Celebrating the life of

Judy M. Shearouse

Passed away on February 11, 2023

Judy M. Shearouse

Judy Mikell Shearouse, 70, passed away suddenly, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Candler Hospital.  She was born June 1, 1952 in Statesboro, GA to the late James D. Mikell, Sr. and Betty Thompson Mikell.

Judy and Jimmy were married on February 19, 1971 at Derenne Avenue Church of God and were the first couple to ever get married there. For nearly 52 years, they built a wonderful life together that included the joys of their lives, Jay and Jamy.  Judy was a devout Christian and loved the Lord and her life was an example of loving others the way Christ loves.

To know Judy was to love Judy. She had a servant's heart and her soul talent was to nurture and love others. She was a mama and best friend to all and freely loved selflessly with her whole heart.

It was common for Jimmy and Judy’s house to be full of kids. They made it a place people wanted to gather. Judy found peace and happiness at her grandad’s house in the country. She loved the water and was often found on the dock or fishing or gardening or rolling pecans - she so enjoyed the outdoors. Judy also loved her country and was a die-hard Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons fan.

She was an ICU nurse at Candler and took exceptional care of patients for more than 30 years.

Judy loved her family more than life itself. Her beloved husband, children, family and friends will miss her terribly. We hope Judy is exploring the beautiful outdoors of Heaven until we meet again.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Catherine Linderman May, and her son-in-law, Danny Monroe (her BFF).

Judy is survived by her husband, James M. Shearouse, father-in-law, R.E. May, son, James M. Shearouse Jr. (daughter-in-law Becky Shearouse), daughter, Jamy Shearouse Monroe, sister, Jo Mikell McCutchen,

brother, James D Mikell Jr.  (Brenda Mikell), grandchildren, Samantha Reese (Justin Reese), Wren and Tatum Monroe, and great-grandchildren, Toren and Sawyer Reese.  Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Claire Ault (Jake Ault), Justin Stuckey (Kimberly Stuckey), Jason Stuckey (Coryn Stuckey), and great-nieces and great-nephews, Abigail, Emily, Hunter, Dylan, Jackson, Carson, and one great-nephew on the way, RJ.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel.

Memorial Service will be follow at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Fox & Weeks, Islands Chapel.

In Lieu of flowers please donate to Tunnel to Tower Foundation in memory of Judy.
