Diane Sutlive

October 05, 1942 - February 05, 2023

Diane Sutlive

Diane Louise “Dee” Sutlive passed away February 5, 2023. Dee was born October 5, 1942 at Telfair Hospital, in Savannah, GA, to Louise Brabham Sutlive and Charles Mark Sutlive. She attended Charles Ellis Elementary School in Savannah and graduated from Radnor High School, Radnor, PA, in 1960. After earning her certificate in French Studies from Ecole Superieur de Commerce, Neuchatel, Switzerland, she attended Arcadia College in Pennsylvania, and the University of Georgia.

Her fluency in the French language served her well in her career in the international fashion industry in New York, Paris, and Italy. In New York City, Dee was associated with the major French fashion houses of Andre Courreges, Emanuel Ungaro, and Sonia Rykiel.

After returning to Savannah after more than twenty years in New York, she continued her retail career locally.  Known for her impeccable taste, she developed the first generation of lifestyle shops in Savannah, Portico & Co.

She then designed and created the first museum shop of the Telfair Museums, curating the Owens-Thomas Museum Shop showcasing Low Country art and culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. For her initiatives she was awarded a lifetime membership to the Telfair Museum of Art by its Director and Board of Trustees, and maintained interest and support of the Telfair Museums, serving as a past president of the Friends of the Owens-Thomas House. Dee was perhaps best known in Savannah for her successful fashion collaboration with Ross Arnsdorff at Gaucho.

Dee was twice married. These marriages gave her great gifts in the form of beloved stepdaughters and grandchildren; Tracy Tucker Knox (Graham) and Lachlan Knox, of Sydney, Australia, and Kelly Grant Gubenko (Alex) and Evan Flick of Savannah, GA. Dee is also survived by her goddaughters, Amy Thorpe Tisovec (Phil), of Park City, Utah, and Catharine Cook DeLong (Joe), of Bluffton, SC, many members of the Sutlive family, special friend, Jude Register, and many great friends.

Her wit and style will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9th at Bonaventure Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, Telfair Museums, Hospice Savannah or the charity of one’s choice.
