Celebrating the life of

Bonnie Faye Smith

April 08, 1955 - February 06, 2023

Bonnie Faye Smith

On the morning of Monday, February 6, 2023, Bonnie Faye Hodges Smith, 67, went to be with the Lord after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was at home with her loving husband. She was a faithful member of Compassion Christian Church in Savannah.

Bonnie was born on April 8, 1955 in Statesboro, Georgia to Lindell Riner Hodges Thompson and William Eugene Hodges. She attended Statesboro High School.

In 1972, Bonnie met the love of her life, Roy Wilbur Smith, while working together at the Big Star Grocery Store in Statesboro. They were married just three months later on June 16, 1972. In June of 2022, Bonnie and Roy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their dearest family and friends.

After working for Hartford Insurance for nine years, Bonnie began a 31, year career at the Oliver Maner Law Firm. She served the law firm well as a legal assistant and later as a firm administer from January 1, 1980, until her retirement on September 28, 2018. Bonnie was universally loved and respected and brought an unmatched work ethic and example to everything she did.  Her bright smile and calm demeanor made her a leader among the staff members at the firm.  Her faith and caring attitude set an example for everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with her. Even after retirement, Bonnie visited Oliver Maner often and remained in contact with her many close friends at their law firm.

In her personal time, Bonnie enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens and watching the many birds that came to visit. She enjoyed reading on the beach and watching Hallmark movies. But most of all, Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family. She was happiest and full of life and laughter when her sons and grandchildren were together with her. She made it her priority to keep her family close with Sunday dinners and family vacations.

Bonnie was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Marie Smith, and her parents, William Eugene Hodges, and Lindell Hodges Thompson.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Roy W. Smith; two sons, Roy Shannon Smith and fiancé Shelby Musselman, of Lehi, Utah, and Michael Gene Smith and wife, Kristen, of Savannah, Georgia; three grandchildren, Cody Smith, of West Jordan, Utah, and Harrison Smith and Eleanor Smith, both of Savannah, Georgia; three step-grandchildren, Tyler Randall, Rylie Randall, and Taryn Randall; two brothers, Kenneth Eugene Hodges (partner Kathleen McQuaig), and Raymond Wayne Hodges (wife Sharon); and several nieces and nephews. Additionally, Bonnie will be missed by Harley, her beloved Yorkie, who laid by her side until her very last day.

Visitation will be Friday, February 10 from 5 to 7 pm at Fox and Weeks (7200 Hodgson Memorial Dive, Savannah, Georgia)

Celebration of Life will be Saturday at 11 am at Fox and Weeks. Internment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Shannon Smith, Michael Smith, Cody, Smith, Harrison, Smith, Kenneth Hodges, and Raymond Hodges.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice Savannah, or other charity of your choosing.

I am deeply saddened that Bonnie has passed. I am comforted to know that she is well with the Lord in Heaven. I will miss hearing her laughter and seeing the delight in her eyes when she talked of her children and grandchildren. I will always cherish the many good times that Glenda and I had the pleasure of sharing with Bonnie And Roy. Bonnie was truly that rare special person that God puts in the world to make it better place for everyone else. My prayers are for Roy and the family during this time of grieving.
