Henry Lawton Tison, Jr.

Henry Lawton Tison, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Arbors Memory Care facility in Savannah.

The native and lifelong resident of Savannah was born on May 7, 1942 to the late Henry Lawton, Sr.  and Edna Williamson Tison. Growing up on Isle of Hope, Henry often talked of the happy times that he and his friends spent exploring the woods and camping on the islands in the river. Henry was a 1960 graduate of Savannah Country Day School and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. He was passionate about his Clemson Tigers, and he enjoyed building furniture for his family and friends. Through the years, Henry had varied careers in construction including selling construction materials and constructing roads and homes before he retired from his own construction and remodeling company.

In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph S. Tison.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Kelly Tison; two sons H. Lawton Tison, III (Mary) and John M. Tison; three daughters, Catherine Eurell ( Charlie), Eleanor Tison (Mark Dailey), and Virginia T. Coates;  grandchildren,  Joseph M. Phinney, Luke W. Dailey, Henry O. Dailey (Maureen), Eleanor V. Dailey, Emma A. Dailey, Mary Catherine Tison, Andrew L. Tison, Brennan T. Tison, Ellis A. Coates, Ruth A. Dailey and Shane R. Tison; sister, Lucy T. Gilpin (Michael); sister-in-law, Margaret K. Tew (David), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that will dearly miss him.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be private.
