Celebrating the life of

Dr. Edward DuPont Hood, Junior

August 23, 1928 - January 22, 2023

Dr. Edward DuPont Hood, Junior

Dr. Edward DuPont Hood, Junior died on January 22, 2023.

“DuPont” was born on August 23, 1928 in Savannah GA. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, University of Georgia (Athens, GA), Woodrow Wilson School of Law (Atlanta, GA), and New York Medical College (NY, NY). He completed his internship at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA, then entered a solo family practice in Savannah, GA.  The manner in which Dr. Hood conducted himself had a huge influence on many others in his life. He had a natural curiosity that made him question many things and learn as much as could on a myriad of subjects. He lived his life with integrity, passion, and commitment to his medical profession.  Dr. Hood is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty.  She was his devoted caregiver, never leaving his side and making every effort to give him a normal life following his stroke in 2016. There was never “I” or “Me”, “He” or “She” but always “Us and Ours.”  He had one son, Edward DuPont Hood III, of Savannah GA., and one daughter, Tracey Michelle Oshinski (John) of Decatur, GA. Four grandchildren, Edward D Hood IV (Jessica) of Savannah GA, Nicholas John Oshinski of Denver CO, Paul DuPont Oshinski of Austin, TX, and Matthew Norbert Oshinski of Decatur GA, and one great grandson, Rivers Hood of Savannah GA. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 27 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Abbey, 1600 Wheaton St. Savannah, GA   31304.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Dr. Hood's memory to Jay’s HOPE Foundation Against all HOPE, in HOPE we believe. | Jay’s HOPE (jayshope.org), 1157-B Forsyth Street. Macon, GA  31201.

Dr. Hood was my doctor when I was a teenager in Savannah, he encouraged me and taught me what a professional could be as he served others. He was an inspiration for all 49 years of my ministry. His wisdom and concern were a gift to me which I was enabled to share. May the joy of heaven be his. Blessings David

Tracey,John,Betty and Eddie my thoughts and deepest condolences to all of you. I will be praying for you as you navigate life without your Daddy and Husband. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for your parents Tracey. They provided me with so many opportunities when I was a teenager. You dad was a special surrogate Dad to me when I didn’t have one. He took me along traveling with you and gave me memories I would have never have had the opportunity for otherwise. I’ll never my first flight in an airplane was that puddle jumper to the Bahamas! DuPont cared for me in the hospital twice as well as a teen. Your Mom and Dad are so special to me and I love them dearly. Their funny banter together used to make me laugh so! You are all in my heart forever. I Love you all dearly. ❤️ Suzanne

Dr Hood was special especially to my family. The first time I saw him was jumping my Dad's diving board when he was thinking of putting in a pool in the house on Stillwood! I wish I could be there for the funeral but know there are many who thought highly of him and you too Betty.
