Celebrating the life of
Nell Portwood Izzo
August 26, 1934 - January 10, 2023
Nell Portwood Izzo, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, GA.
Nell was born August 26, 1934, in Wadley, Georgia, to the late Mattie Green Portwood and Lawrence Elmo Portwood. The family moved to Savannah in 1941.
Nell attended local schools and graduated from Commercial High School in 1952. Nell immediately went to work at the Central of Georgia Railroad Hospital, working there until the hospital closed in 1963. Nell went to work at Savannah Foods and Industries on January 2, 1964 and retired from there in a 1998 as Stockholder Relations Manager.
In addition to her parents, Nell is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Izzo, sisters, Wylene McVey and Linda Flowers and brother Lloyd Portwood.
Nell is survived by her son Michael T. Izzo Sr (Guerin Izzo) grandsons Michael Jr. ( Sydney Helmly) and Daniel Izzo, Great Grand Daughter Marley Izzo, Brother In Law Charles Flowers, nieces and nephews and Dear
friend Rose Brown.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah, Ga. officiated by Nell’s nephew Steve McVey.

We are so saddened to hear about Aunt Nell passing. She was always full of light and love, and always made time to listen and offer advice. The world is a little dimmer without her here, but heaven has grown brighter with her arrival.
